HersheyPark In The Dark: Taking Trick or Treating On The Road

As Halloween approaches fast, you may be wandering what to do. I know Eileen’s ideas and reviews on how to get a good scare probably got your mind thinking. But suppose you just want to go on a little Halloween getaway, I get it…you are travel chick! Well, that’s exactly what we did. Last Halloween weekend, we hit the road to the sweetest place on earth…Hershey Park, PA. What a perfect combination…spending Halloween weekend at a place surrounded by chocolate! So, here’s the low down on HersheyPark in the dark.

Of course, me and Eileen had to get our coaster hills and thrills and headed directly to Hershey amusement park. Around this time of the year, Hershey Park is decked out in a Halloween theme. And, we loved the dark ride experience, where 3 roller coasters (lightning racer, wildcat and comet) track lights were turned off. We went on all 3 roller coasters and loved it! It was a frightful fun ride 🙂

Obviously, we are all about the roller coasters. But, if you don’t want to ride roller coaster all day, then after dark you can go to creatures of the night. You can bring your flash light and see nighttime habits of more than 200 animals, see other animals eat Halloween treats, learn the facts and myths of certain animals and touch a reptile (snake, turtle or alligator…definitely not my thing). Anyways, if that’s not really up your alley either, then you can be part of the trick or treat adventure. Its starts at chocolate world with a path leading into Hershey’s park, Treatville. Who wouldn’t want free candy?

You should know Hershey has more to offer than the amusement park. On day 2, we headed out to the Hershey Story. It’s a museum on Chocolate Avenue…so fitting. What’s great about the museum is the interactive exhibits telling the 5 major turning points of Milton Hershey’s story from rags to riches. We used 1 of the exhibits to make our own “xploroscope” Hershey story passport. It was pretty cool. Then, we went to the chocolate lab. It’s really set up like a lab and we learned about how coco beans are grown and how it’s process. And, we were able to experiment and make our own chocolate…delicious!

Without a doubt, we had to pay a visit to the Chocolate World. This place is filled with chocolate-packed adventure! We started out by going on the great american chocolate tour to see how cocoa beans go from the tropical rainforest to the chocolate we love to eat. Then, we hopped on the Hershey trolley to take a tour of the town build on chocolate. And, we able to try different flavors throughout the whole tour…yummy! Next on our agenda was Hershey’s great chocolate factory mystery experience in 4D. With digital technology and special effects, we interacted with characters to help solve the mystery. Again, we were given chocolate 🙂 It’s gets better. Afterwards, we went to Hershey’s University to learn from the chocolate experts about the world’s best cocoa-growing regions. That’s my type of class…chocolate tasting. With chocolate all around us, we couldn’t help making our own chocolate bar. We used a computer to pick the type of chocolate, the fillings and personalize our own candy wrapper with cute designs and colors. Just before we left our day of chocolate attractions, we couldn’t resist joining the s’mores campfire party. An end to a perfect day.

We loved Hershey but it can be a bit nippy at the end of October. So, I think our next Halloween getaway need to go in the other direction. Disney or Busch Gardens sounds fine to me.
