U.S. Open: Is It Just About Tennis?

September 8, 2014 By: eilacomment

The US Open? Is it just about tennis? That was the question my father asked the night before going to our 1st U.S. open. After years of going to the US Open, I can honestly say, “No, it’s not just about tennis.” I have enjoyed the awesome amenities (like massages and dancing to fine tune music) and seen legendary and historical moments……my favorite was watching Andre Agassi final match 🙂

Trust me; it’s definitely more than just 17 tennis courts. Of course, you’ll see courts all around you. But, when you come to the US Open, you’ll see the sport of tennis and entertainment comes together in a spectacular way. For two weeks, you can see the best athletes battle it out while you enjoy the games as well as listening to harp playing and breaking dancing shows. That pretty much sums it up.

So to add a little spice to your travel and adventure bucket list, I’ll definitely suggest seeing the US Open up close and personal. It’s nothing like seeing a world-class sporting event in an amazing place like NYC. But before you start to make future plans, keep this in mind (you know a girl has to be savvy in her travels and adventures…..

  • Get on track with the match-you can easily take the subway to the US Open. It will save you money from parking fees. But, if the subway isn’t your thing, then you can easily drive. You can found out what car companies are sponsoring the US Open and drive one of those cars and park for free…that happened to me. Good deal! Either way is fine…taking the subway or driving. I’ve done both and it worked out okay.
  • Make sure you visit the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and Grandstand. The main purpose of going to a famous event is to see the major venues. Think about it, would you go to Paris and overlook visiting the Eiffel Tower?…of course, not!
  • Get a ground map and fan guide to get the most of your US Open experience. The last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time looking for places and trying to figure things out. You want to start enjoying yourself right away. Watching tennis and having fun is the name of the game.
  • What about the food? You can’t forget about that. Well, you can find all types of food to suit your taste buds. The Aces (wine and sushi bar) and Champions bar and grill (steakhouse) requires a reservation. And, US Open Club is only for subscription series ticket holders. However, all ticket holders have a choice of a variety of food from Latin-inspired food to everyday regional cuisine.
  • Enjoy the entertainment. NYC is an awesome place and packed with talented people. You’ll see bands playing pop, jazz, indie-folk music and other genres, dance performances, a cappella groups and the list goes on. Maybe, you’ll be lucky enough to get a free massage like me 🙂

Well, I think sports travel is always fun. It’s like 2 birds with 1 stone. You can enjoy popular event and see a new city. That’s my way to live it out! So, if you didn’t make it to the US Open this year, then it’s always next year. Just plan for it or you can leave it up to the experts….official tennis travel package and you can secure your spot for next year.  So, let me a comment and tell me your thoughts. Talk to you soon.

Hugs,

P.S. By the way, my dad loved the US Open and went back a couple more times 🙂
