Take A Bite Of The Big Apple (NYC)

June 3, 2014 By: eilacomment

bit of big appleTake a bite of the big apple….that’s what Eileen and I intended to do when we signed up for the Amazing NY Scavenger Hunt. If you know anything about NYC, then you know it’s definitely a hopping and popping city. And, dashing to different NYC landmarks would be hard to determine where you would end up. But, that’s part of the excitement!

Starting our unique adventure, we had to arrive and check in at the Village Pourhouse on the corner 3rd ave. & E. 11th street. The event organizer gave brief instructions and a QR code to scan a smartphone app to feed us our clues and challenges. We had 3 hours to complete the scavenger hunt. As soon as we downloaded the app, the clock started ticking. We fled out the door because we were determine to win. The first challenge was to take a picture of halal food stand….check. Then, we had to find an ice cream truck and organic fruit. It took us forever to find organic fruit. Who knew? But, the tasks were all done in Union Square. Then, we use our metro cards to go uptown to Times Square to complete the challenges of finding a baker’s dozen, roasted nuts stands, taco stands (we settled for an empanada stand) and taking pictures with a restaurant worker. And, one of the clues led us to eating the infamous “Juniors” cheesecake. By far that was my favorite challenge.

Two hours into the scavenger hunt we were exhausted. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to finish it. And, it top it off, it started to rain. It was no surprise we didn’t win. No worries, we are going to do it again because it was super duper fun. And, I’m going to suggest you to do a scavenger hunt around your way. It’s something fun and different. Although Eileen and I didn’t win, we can give you some pointers. So, listen up and take words from the wise:

  • First of all, arrive to the scavenger hunt fueled up. You are going to need a lot of energy. So, make sure you eat your Wheaties 🙂
  • Listen to the event organizers when they give the instructors. They are going to be important later on in the game. I loosely listened and ended up confused on some things I needed to do.
  • Wear comfortable shoes…preferably sneakers. You will need to run a little bit to complete the challenges and hopefully win.
  • Let the person with the super strong smartphone battery download the scavenger hunt app. And, everyone else on the team should use their smartphones to help complete the challenges (i.e. finding taco stands). I missed that vital point.
  • Remember not to get aggravated or frustrated. It’s all in fun.
  • Lastly, it’s all about strategy. Instead of running out the door because the clock is ticking, take a little time to look at the clues and map things out.

I would love to hear your thoughts. If you did a scavenger hunt, then tell me your experience. I found out later I missed out on free food samples, solving some Sodoku puzzles and playing Dance Revolution. By the way, there wasn’t any money involved in the scavenger hunt….. just free t-shirts and bragging right. I would love to hear your thoughts. And, if you’ve been on a scavenger hunt, then let me your experience. Anyhow through the summer, we are doing fun and unique events. So, make sure you stay connected….that’s it for now.

Hugs,

cheesecake
