Sports Travel: FIFA Women’s World Cup

October 31, 2015 By: eilacomment

Last year was all about the Men’s World Cup. But, this year, it’s the girls’ turn. After losing the title to Japan 4 years ago, the Americans were coming back with vengeance and ready for their rematch. It was time to claim the crown! And, if you are a sports chick like me, then you know what I’m talking about. In case you don’t, here’s the scoop….

Here’s how it works. There are 24 teams and those teams are divided into confederations. Each confederation has a certain number of slots to fill. After that, the qualification process begins with 6 groups of 4 teams. Each group plays the other 3 teams once. The 2 teams in the group with the most points advance ahead (3 points for a win, 1 pt. for a tie and 0 pt. for a loss). The top 2 teams from each group advance plus 4 3rd place teams. It continues on as a normal competition with the top team from 1 group playing the 2nd team from another in a single elimination round. And, this goes on and on until 1 team is left standing.

Finally, along with their gold Olympic medal the Americans grabbed the FIFA World Cup trophy. And, to top it off, this year world cup broke TV rating records. It had more viewers than this year’s game 6 NBA final and last year’s game 7 World Series. Not bad for some sport chicks. Kudos to the U.S. Women’s soccer team!

Of course, they had their victory parade right here in my home state…NYC! Are you getting excited? I hope so. How cool would it be to go to the World Cup, NBA final, Playoff game, Super bowl, US open or even the Olympics? I’m looking forward to doing it all and I can’t wait to take you along with me. So, put on your travelling shoes and let’s go! I want to hear your thoughts…leave a comment.

Hugs,
