Rollercoaster Review Number 2: Rollercoasters in Busch Gardens, Tampa, FL

October 13, 2014 By: eila1 Comment

busch gardensAs promised, here’s the second in my series about roller coasters. This time, I’m taking you with me on a ride through the different coasters you can find in Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida.  Although it doesn’t have as many coasters as Great Adventure, the ones it DOES have are enough to take your breath away! It’s amazing how the same basic premise of a thrill ride can be interpreted in so many different (and scary) ways! Each ride has its own characteristic thrill that sets it apart from the other rollercoasters in the park that sets it apart from other rollercoasters in ANY park. First up….

1)     CHEETAH HUNT

THRILL High
LENGTH 4,400 feet
SPLASH Dry

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: One of THE best coasters in the entire park! Loved it so much, we went on it over and over again! Of course, it helped that as the day wore on, the line was better. As you can imagine, the line is LOOOOOONG for this one! Can’t say enough about this one because it’s my favorite one!!!

2)     SheiKra

THRILL High
SPLASH Dry (for riders)
HEIGHT 200 feet
DROP 90 degrees
SPEED 70 mph
FUN FACT Has an Immelmann loop

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: The other BEST coaster in the park! This one is quite unique that not only do the loops get you, but the anticipation that is built up. You go up the ascent and go slowly to the straightaway, seeing and anticipating the eventual steep 90 degree drop. Just when you think you’re about to enter that drop, you stop right at the beginning of the drop and just DANGLE there for a bit – staring at (what you could swear to be) your ‘demise’ or rather, your drop 90 degrees down.  You try to figure out when it’ll happen and before you know it, you’re plunging down. It happens so fast and so furious you can’t even scream properly because your stomach is literally in your throat.

3)     GWAZI

THRILL High
SPLASH Dry
TYPE Wooden

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: This is your typical wooden rollercoaster that has some thrills. Still an exciting ride, although there are more exciting rides in the park. What IS fun about this ride is that you “duel” with another train that runs in the opposite direction. Simultaneous trains definitely add to the fun!

4)     KUMBA

THRILL High
SPLASH Dry
INITIAL DROP 135 feet
UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS Diving loop, 3 secs of weightlessness (during 360Degree spiral, vertical loop
FUN FACT Kumba means “lion’s roar”

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: This is definitely a fun rollercoaster to ride! The initial drop and the following loops are exciting and certainly keep you screaming from beginning to end. This is definitely a favorite as well!!!

5)     MONTU

THRILL High
SPLASH Dry

UNIQUE CHRACTERISTICS Twisting drop, 60 ft vertical loop, Immelmann loop, and a zero G roll
FUN FACTS Named after Egyptian god of war; has 7 inversions; can pull 3.85 Gs, 1st coaster to use Immelmann loop

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: This rollercoaster is AWESOME to say the least. The feeling of your legs being suspended as you go through the loops adds to the excitement! You definitely need to experience this coaster when you visit Busch Gardens Tampa!

6)     SCORPION

THRILL High
SPLASH Dry
SPEED 50 mph
UNIQUE CHARACTERISITCS Has a 360 degree spiral at 3 Gs

FEELING & BOTTOM LINE: Not much to write home about this one. A fun and exciting ride, but it’s a typical rollercoaster.

Although it seems like Busch Gardens doesn’t have as many rollercoasters as in my previous article, these are still very good coasters to ride on and write about. I’m actually craving some Cheetah Hunt and SheiKra time….I’m long overdue! Any thoughts? Would love to hear it!

XOXOXOXO,
