And the Winner Is….Oscars Part II

March 3, 2014 By: eilacomment

Oscars SelfieSo! It’s the day after the Oscars….did you pick the winners? Did you see all the results coming? I won’t bombard you with all the results, because you can get that information anywhere on the net. For me, I cast some of my ballots pre-Oscars. My local paper puts out a whole page dedicated to the Oscars with all the nominees listed. My family and I have a tradition whereby we put our initials next to who we think is going to be the winner. I won in some categories, tied in others, and of course, lost in the rest. Some are pure guesses for the not-so-mainstream movies, such as the foreign movies. I also take guesses when it comes to the detailed categories such as sound editing…I mean how am I supposed to discern what had good sound editing? Anyway, it’s fun to see how many of my guesses are right on point.

Ellen was a GREAT host. She was funny (as always) and super entertaining. The music performances were decent – some were great, some were average, and some were so-so. The whole pizza portion of the show (where Ellen bought pizza for the audience – ok, THREE pies) was hilarious. The re-tweet of the selfie taken by Ellen with all those celebrities was GREAT! I confess, I immediately re-tweeted the pic to be a part of Oscar and Twitter history.

Aside from the fashions and jokes, the parts that stood out the most to me were the speeches. The most notable speeches, in my opinion were the ones given by: Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, and Matthew McConaughey. They each put their own spins on putting out a truly inspirational message. Jared gave a great-opening–first–acceptance-of-the-night speech to open the show. Matthew made it like bookends because his speech was almost at the very end of the show. Lupita’s speech was somewhere in the middle of the show.  It was also refreshing to see how many male celebrities took their moms with them – it kind of made the show endearing and a bit more emotional.

All in all, an entertaining night with plenty of laughs. Where else can you see quite a powerhouse of celebrities all under one roof? Who knows, maybe one day I can be on the red carpet interviewing these celebrities….that would be a great adventure, wouldn’t it???

Tell me your thoughts! Talk to ya soon!
